Commodore Kenneth (Kenny) E. Golden, United States Navy, Retired

  • Kenny Golden was born in Moseley, Virginia and graduated from Blackstone High School in Blackstone, Virginia. He attended Ferrum College and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education

  • He entered flight training in February, 1973 through the Aviation Officer Candidate Program and was designated an unrestricted naval aviator in September, 1974

  • Received a Masters degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University, California in 1976.

  • Served from October, 1977 to July, 1980 at Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron Eleven at Jacksonville, Florida and was attached to U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower and U. S. S. John F. Kennedy.

  • In August, 1980 Golden reported as a flight instructor to the Fleet Replacement Squadron, Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron One.

  • Was selected to attend the Naval War College at Newport, Rhode Island in November, 1982 and was later chosen as the American student at the Naval Staff College International Course and graduated with a MS in International Relations

  • Reported to the Office of Chief of Naval Operations, Congressional Policy and Coordination Branch at the Pentagon in January, 1987.

  • Golden was assigned to Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron Two as the Executive Officer in November 1989 then Commanding Officer from December, 1990 through March, 1992. He directed the first successful deployment of SH-60F helicopters and HH-60H combat search and rescue helicopters on board U. S. S. Nimitz. The squadron was the first to utilize Night Vision Goggle capability and deployed to the Persian Gulf and participated in operation ‘Desert Storm’ and ‘Southern Watch’.
